Men’s health is in crisis
Men are dying on average 4.5 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons.
Movember.com funds Global initiatives to support men’s physical and mental health including Prostate and Testicular Cancer as well as Suicide prevention campaigns.
I took part in Movember throughout November 2025 by growing a sponsored moustache!
I was fortunate to raise £250 in total from friends and family. This was 66.7% above my target of £150. Thanks to everyone who donated.
I created a data visualisation of my campaign results. The gauge chart below shows the donations in date order.
Creating the gauge chart
Creating gauge charts in Tableau is notoriously tricky due to the complex trigonometry calculations required.
The chart is actually adapted from Tableau’s new Radial Chart extension, by adapting the formatting so that the Total Angle is 180 degrees and the starting angle is 270 degrees. I found using the Radial extension very fast and easy once I had worked out the angles. Although there are formatting limitations when using the extension.
Colour is used to show the donations more or less above or below target. This was achieved by manually changing the colour legend of the donation segments. As there is no color marks card available with this extension to use a calculated field.
Please bear in mind gauge charts are not always the easiest to interpret, a bar chart would be better. However, it is the nearest I could get to creating a “Moustache Chart”.
